Fourth quarter is over. The holidays have passed. It’s time to face the reality that 2025 is here. Now is the perfect time to shift gears and set the year up to be your most successful yet.

Here are a few proven strategies for a strong start:
Use your numbers as your guide
Your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) tell an important story — listen to them. Whether you’re setting your budget or adjusting internal operations, ask yourself, “Does this help us grow, become more efficient, or create a competitive advantage?” If not, it’s time to cut the dead weight. A relentless focus on tracking the metrics that matter most and making the adjustments they point to is the foundation of your success.
The only way to grab the branch of “what can be” is to cut yourself free of the choking vine of “the way it’s always been.”
Treat strategy time as non-negotiable
If something is a priority, it gets scheduled on your calendar. I’m certain every renewal and prospect meeting you have scheduled is documented in Outlook. As they should be, you can’t deny their importance.
However, in the bigger picture, taking time to strategize about the trajectory of your business is even more important. Unfortunately, it’s rare to find a leader disciplined enough to make this a consistent priority, much less to schedule time to ensure it happens.
Let this be the year you dedicate time on your calendar for strategic thinking and guard it as fiercely as you would a prospect meeting. This is your opportunity to step back, set priorities, and decide what belongs on your plate and what doesn’t. Guard this strategy time as fiercely as you would a prospect meeting. You know that BIG thing you know you really need to do, but you keep putting it off? Bad news. I just looked at the 2025 calendar, and they still haven’t added “Someday.”
Embrace a community
It’s a fool’s play to try and tackle challenges alone. Align yourself with a community of like-minded professionals who are on a similar growth journey. The specific type of community (entrepreneurs, employee benefits, etc.) is less important than finding YOUR community.
Doing so will drive your success in countless ways, some obvious, some unexpected. A community will help you avoid mistakes and capitalize on opportunities. You will find partners who bring expertise and fresh perspectives. Having a support group that will build you up to new levels and also pick you up when you slip is the secret sauce missing from too many agencies’ growth recipes.
